Carolyn S. Clark, MBA – President

Carolyn S. Clark, MBA, is Co-founder and President of Peloton Advantage, LLC. She and her business partner, Michael J. McLaughlin, MD, started Peloton Advantage in 2005 with 2 clients and a staff of 6 full-time and 2 part-time employees.

In starting Peloton Advantage, Ms. Clark drew from more than a decade of experience and success in the field of strategic publication planning. In 1995, Ms. Clark joined the staff at Applied Clinical Communications (ACC), a privately owned company specializing in development of scientific content in support of medical communications and publications activities. Over the next 5 years, Ms. Clark created and instituted an effective publications process and, in doing so, guided the growth of the publications business from 3 to 25 premarket and postlaunch products. In 2000, she left ACC to pursue her MBA full-time at Seton Hall University. After earning her degree in May 2002, she returned to the industry, recruited by BLP Group Companies (now Cardinal Health) to lead their first-ever publication account, a large publication plan for Wyeth’s antidepressant Effexor®.

While at Cardinal Health, Ms. Clark was promoted to Vice President of Publications and went on to build the publication business under the name of Medesta Publications Group from 1 to 12 premarket and postlaunch products. In August 2004, Cardinal Health transferred management of another division, MES Publications, to Ms. Clark as well. While responsible for the full financial and operational management of Cardinal Health’s Medesta Publications Group and MES Publications, Ms. Clark led a 36‑member staff performing work on 15 active accounts.

Ms. Clark shares her experience and expertise with other industry professionals as a frequent speaker at various publication planning meetings and conferences. She became a founding member of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) when she was asked to join the ISMPP Steering Committee as the organization was being formed. The ISMPP promotes excellence in medical publishing through the open exchange and debate of relevant issues, as well as the dissemination of practical medical information through high-quality conferences and training programs. Members of the organization's steering committee are leaders in the field of strategic publication planning and represent multiple pharmaceutical companies (Amgen, AstraZeneca, EMD Pharmaceuticals, Merck, Organon, Pfizer Inc, and sanofi-aventis) and publication agencies (Complete Healthcare Communications, PeerView, Peloton Advantage, and Thompson Scientific Connexions). In 2010, Ms. Clark was named one of the “Best Fifty Women in Business” by NJBIZ magazine for her contributions to the field of medical communications as well as her charitable contributions to the community.
